The amount of renewable energy capacity added to energy systems around the world grew by 50% in 2023, reaching almost 510 gigawatts. In this rapidly evolving landscape, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have emerged as a pivotal technology, offering a reliable solution for storing energy and ensuring its availability when needed.
The modular nature of containerized systems often results in lower installation and maintenance costs compared to traditional setups. And when you can store up energy when it’s inexpensive and then release it when energy prices are high, you can easily reduce energy costs.
Therefore, we analyzed the airflow organization and battery surface temperature distribution of a 1540 kWh containerized energy storage battery system using CFD simulation technology. Initially, we validated the feasibility of the simulation method by comparing experimental results with numerical ones.
The ship's power supply system is connected to a total of three containerized lithium battery systems, each with a battery capacity of 1540 kWh, and the 3D model is illustrated in Fig. 1. The containerized energy storage battery system comprises a container and air conditioning units.

Standardized plug-and-play designs have reduced installation costs from $1,000/kW to $550/kW since 2022. Smart integration features now allow industrial systems to operate as virtual power plants, increasing business savings by 40% through time-of-use optimization and grid services. Safety innovations including multi-stage protection and thermal management systems have reduced insurance premiums by 30% for commercial storage installations.
