The East River Energy Storage System project involves the redevelopment of the Charles Poletti Power Plant property, the announcement says. The president of Con Edison, Tim Cawley, commented that the new battery system will help to maximise the benefit of the wind power being developed off the coast of New York.
Through an agreement between the City and the state Power Authority, this work will add over 30 MW of solar PV generating capacity and up to 10 MW of large-scale battery storage to provide energy to power City operations.
