Get StartedThe location is the actual environment in which the base station will be installed. Typically, this means outside in an open sky environment (e.g. on the roof of a building or in an empty field). Figure 2 shows a typical fixed installation of several antennas, including a VeraChoke and a VeraPhase 6000, on a roof.
The hardware installation guidelines are limited but important for reliable base station performance. The base station antenna should be installed in open sky conditions, away from external influences that hinder the direct line of sight between the antenna and the GNSS satellites.
Before starting a base station setup, the user needs to know and understand basic concepts of the base-rover setup. The location is the actual environment in which the base station will be installed. Typically, this means outside in an open sky environment (e.g. on the roof of a building or in an empty field).
In general, this means that the ideal antenna installation is near the centre of the work area. For larger work areas (several 10’s of km’s), it is advised to place several base stations for optimal performance and easy selection of the nearest base station.
The base stations input is thus needed to calculate an accurate and reliable position. One of the determining factors in accuracy and reliability is the baseline (i.e. the distance between the rover and base receivers).
Depending on how the reference position is determined (which is explained in the next article in this series), the antenna may be set up on top of a point for which the coordinates are known, such as a geodetic control point.
The global commercial and industrial solar energy storage battery market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with demand increasing by over 400% in the past three years. Large-scale battery storage solutions now account for approximately 45% of all new commercial solar installations worldwide. North America leads with 42% market share, driven by corporate sustainability goals and federal investment tax credits that reduce total system costs by 30-35%. Europe follows with 35% market share, where standardized industrial storage designs have cut installation timelines by 60% compared to custom solutions. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest-growing region at 50% CAGR, with manufacturing innovations reducing system prices by 20% annually. Emerging markets are adopting commercial storage for peak shaving and energy cost reduction, with typical payback periods of 3-6 years.
