The plan said that the new-energy storage industry is a key source of support for advancing the construction of a manufacturing powerhouse and promoting the efficient development and utilization of new-energy resources. By 2027, China aims to cultivate three to five leading enterprises in the ecosystem.
Chen Haisheng, Chairman of CNESA, noted: "China’s CAES technology has advanced from 100 MW to 300 MW in a decade, setting a new global benchmark." The Energy Storage Industry White Paper 2025 reveals that global new energy storage installations reached 165.4 GW in 2024, with China contributing 43.7 GW of new capacity.
The plan, jointly issued by eight departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Monday, seeks to foster high-quality development in the new-energy storage manufacturing.
The rapid growth of renewable energy generation has created a large market demand for energy storage facilities. By the end of the first quarter of 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy-storage projects in China had reached 35.3 million kW.
