In addition, by leveraging the scaling benefits of power stations, the investment cost per unit of energy storage can be reduced to a value lower than that of the user’s investment for the distributed energy storage system, thereby reducing the total construction cost of energy storage power stations and shortening the investment payback period.
Concurrently, the energy storage system can be discharged at the peak of power consumption, thereby reducing the demand for peak power supply from the power grid, which in turn reduces the required capacity of the distribution transformer; thus, the investment cost for the transformer is minimized.
Subsequently, a method involving a bilevel optimization model was adopted: by replacing the original energy storage capacity at each end of the source, grid, and load with the FESPS, the energy storage capacity was fully released.
A stationary Battery Energy Storage (BES) facility consists of the battery itself, a Power Conversion System (PCS) to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), as necessary, and the “balance of plant” (BOP, not pictured) necessary to support and operate the system. Smart integration features now allow industrial systems to operate as virtual power plants, increasing business savings by 40% through time-of-use optimization and grid services. Safety innovations including multi-stage protection and thermal management systems have reduced insurance premiums by 30% for commercial storage installations. New modular designs enable capacity expansion through simple battery additions at just $450/kWh for incremental storage. These innovations have improved ROI significantly, with commercial projects typically achieving payback in 4-7 years depending on local electricity rates and incentive programs. Recent pricing trends show standard industrial systems (50-100kWh) starting at $25,000 and premium systems (200-500kWh) from $100,000, with flexible financing options available for businesses.
