Under New York State’s Real Property Tax law, New York City residents who install solar generating systems or electric energy storage systems in their homes or buildings are eligible for a real property tax abatement to recoup some of their project-related costs until March 15, 2024sw.
The delta between the strike price and the reference price will constitute the incentive that NYSERDA pays the developers. The second prong targets 1.5 GW of retail storage and 200 MW of residential storage.
Since 2009, New York State has provided property tax abatements for solar electric generating systems installed in New York State cities with more than one million people. This is applicable for only New York City. Historically, this abatement has only been available for solar electric generation.
The State maintains a list of all municipalities that have opted out, which can be accessed here. New York ofers a State income tax credit for people who purchase solar systems. State taxpayers are eligible for a credit equal to the lesser of 25% of their system cost, or $5,000.
These tax incentives are provided by both New York State and the federal government. Two major tax incentives are discussed in this document, along with a discussion of accelerated depreciation deductions, a New York State exemption for property taxes, and tax credits for residential solar.
The global commercial and industrial solar energy storage battery market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with demand increasing by over 400% in the past three years. Large-scale battery storage solutions now account for approximately 45% of all new commercial solar installations worldwide. North America leads with 42% market share, driven by corporate sustainability goals and federal investment tax credits that reduce total system costs by 30-35%. Europe follows with 35% market share, where standardized industrial storage designs have cut installation timelines by 60% compared to custom solutions.
